On your way down the mountains, make sure to toss a rainbow piñata around Joshua Tree, or the locals will imprison you for hipster treason.
Canvas-covered walls & concrete floors. There was a nice record player and vinyls by the bed, but I forgot to take a picture of them... so you’re getting the vintage desk instead.

The main pool and hot tub are idyllic - immaculately set against the desert hills and always bustling with hot blondes and muscle babes (not pictured here).
The hotel’s own King’s Highway diner is a mid-century modern gem, intelligently restored and immaculately decorated by Commune Design and Atelier Ace.

‘Laid-back’ also applies to the hotel’s employees, who are utterly charming, helpful and impervious to urgency.
The Amigo Room bar is worth a look, but its gloomy, cavern-like vibe was lost on me.
There was some building work going on near the pool during our stay, which was a bit noisy.
