A one night staycation
Me & My Boyfriend
An inviting communal space perfect for
the morning paper, coffee and email check.
The lobby and breakfast bar are your first introduction to the curiosities and vintage effects found throughout the hotel…
Most of the rooms overlook the Courtyard Brasserie, which
serves what they term a “playful”, “seasonal” menu.
Even the smallest rooms have impressively spacious living quarters complete with well-stocked kitcheonettes (and a washer/drier!)
Minimal mini bar, but you had me at Le Labo.
Cut to the next morning…the only thing better than a good night’s sleep is the opportunity to channel Julia Roberts’ room service moment from Pretty Woman. (And they happily let me order a customized meal.)
I asked for a room with an outdoor terrace but it turned out to be more like a good place to send your travel companion on a timeout.
A few memorable details.
The extended lobby/bar area is home to a bustling cocktail crowd at night, and has lots of cozy, separate nooks for intimate meetings and daytime hangs.
I used to think LA lacked character, but charming spots like Palihouse, just a block off the flashy Sunset Strip, feel like home to a recent East Coast transplant.
Highs + Lows
Standard rooms are spacious with well stocked kitchen tools (even a blender!) washer/drier, and an empty fridge making it great for long-term stays.
Staff is great with small details, like mentioning the wifi password at check-in and confirming the name of the graffiti artist who created the mural in the courtyard for me.
Abundance of hang-out space in the lobby, equal parts private and communal (and a foosball table to boot).
Window looking straight into the bathroom from our living room with a perfect view of the toilet.
Food & service in the restaurant was average.
