Comfortable bed, check. Ipod dock/speaker, check. Fan, check. Lanterns and candles, bonus point.

Clever in-room ‘necessities.’

At dusk, the hotel glows in the foreground of a dramatic, mountainous landscape.

The brick colored adobe suites with thatched roofs have a residential feel and are spacious and quiet. Think Spanish Colonial meets Santa Fe.

Lounge chairs in the pool - genius.

Balinese-style beach beds with individual fire pits – pretty much where you want to be day or night, especially when the sun sets.

The hotel has mastered the art of indoor/outdoor living. Here: the deck off our room where we had breakfast delivered in the morning.

Sweeping views of the palm grove and the Pacific from our deck.

A more secluded pool next to a grand palapa, which doubles as a bar and event space.

The open-air restaurant helmed by Chef Bueno (I kid you not) serves healthy food from organic produce harvested in their own garden and some tasty fish tacos.

The fire pit is a great addition and the perfect spot to curl up with a cocktail after dinner.

A secret-garden-worthy entrance that led down a snaking path to our room.

The beach is wide, stretches for an eternity and is almost always vacant. You can walk for miles!

Highs & Lows

  • The hotel is artfully landscaped and promotes privacy. There are plenty of places you can retreat to for a dip, to lounge in the sun, or star gaze…

  • Attention to detail; the hotel has anticipated your every need at the pool – from complimentary sunblock, straw hats and cucumber infused water on tap.

  • It is muy romantic. Don't bring your brother.

  • The rip tides are particularly strong near the hotel and it is not always safe to swim in the ocean.

  • The hotel offers a myriad of activities, but I wish there was more than one yoga class per day.
