Highs & Lows

  • Location – proximity to public transport, restaurants, bars and shops. Check out Greville Street and then jump on a train into the city.

  • Half day free bike rental with all hotel bookings. Pedal around the suburb, head up to Fawkner Park or the Botanical Gardens in South Yarra.

  • EVO products in the bathrooms. These are a bathroom highlight from an Australian company who use simple design and clever text on their packaging. The product is great too.

  • iPod docks in all rooms.

  • Location – this is a great area but I’d probably recommend staying in or closer to the city.

  • No free wifi!

  • No bubble bath!

Important Bits

  • Type

Boutique Hotel, part of the Art Series Hotels – there are three in Melbourne, all are named after and based on one significant Australian artist.

  • Vibe

    Colourful urban contemporary.

  • Location

In the back streets of inner-city suburb Prahran. There’s lots to see and do around here and it’s easy to get around, but in terms of location for visitors to Melbourne, I’d recommend staying closer to the city unless you need to be in Prahran.

  • Rooms

    113

  • Music

    Nondescript hotel lobby-style soundtrack.

  • Year Opened

    2009

  • Designed By

    The Art Series Hotel Group

  • Health & Wellness

24 hour rooftop gym access. No pool, but a health centre for massages and spa treatments.

  • Restaurant

There are two restaurants on the ground floor. Gramercy Bistro, an all-day eatery serving things like buttermilk pancakes for breakfast, Reuben sandwiches for lunch and hanger steaks for dinner. HuTong dumpling bar is next door and serves some of the best Shanghai style dumplings in town. Try the classic shao-long bao, a textural soupy dumpling bomb in your mouth.

  • Bar

There is a cocktail bar inside Gramercy Bistro, but it’s only open til 10pm so resort to the mini bar after that.

  • Children

    Are welcome.

  • Price

Rooms start at around $219. Probably at the higher end of options in this area, but fair for what you get here.
