The Inn at Windmill Lane

with Estelle Frances Bailey-Babenzien
  • Where:Amagansett

  • Why:Escaping the Big Apple for some peace and quiet…and the beach!

  • When:Springtime! Late April 2014

  • Who:Me and the hubby, Brendon Babenzien.

Highs & Lows

  • Two open, wood burning fires in my suite! Couldn’t be happier… and the staff will come to light them for you whenever you command, 24 / 7.

  • Massive bathroom with a huge soaking tub and a walk in closet! I’m sold.

  • The Duxiana bed. Let me say it again, The BED - like sleeping on a cloud. Best bed EVER… so dreamy it hurt me to go back to my own.

  • Beach passes for every East Hampton beach - town and village! That’s impressive. Plus all the towels, beach chairs and umbrellas you need… and free SUV service in case you don’t feel like driving or cycling.

  • I would add some design elements such as more chairs in the bathrooms and bedrooms. And a bigger TV in the bedroom.

  • The grounds are beautiful, (perfect for weddings) but having a little pool would be the icing on the cake. Apparently it’s on the cards for a later addition.

Important Bits

  • Type

Super luxury, high-end bed and breakfast estate.

  • Vibe

Your very own home away from home, complete with high-end everything; a private, luxurious, classic Hamptons retreat. Peaceful not social, just relax and do you.

  • Location

Perfectly located down a quiet country road, just minutes from everything. Five minute bike ride to the beach, two minutes to Amagansett Square.

  • Rooms

Seven large suites, three bungalows and one four bedroom house.

  • Music

Just the birds chirping and the breeze… excellent state of the art sound systems in every room though.

  • Year Opened

  • Designed By

The billionaire owner (who prefers his name out of the press). He is an avid art collector - hence art is everywhere!

  • Pool/Gym

A gym but no pool. Private steam rooms and gyms in the cottages.

  • Restaurant

No, but an excellent communal kitchen to prep whatever you desire. Sister restaurant ‘The Meeting House’ is just off the property.

  • Bar

  • Minibar

Yes - a yummy selection of local and classic goodies, treats and drinks, but NO alcohol due to strict East Hampton zoning. However, the amazing concierge service will get you anything you request and stock your room ahead of your stay.

  • Wifi

    Yes, free.

  • Children

Kids only allowed in the cottages during summer… but pets are welcome!

  • Price

    Gasp! Very Expensive.
