AHL Shop: Beyond The Holidays

Curated treats from our favorite tastemakers to shop all year round — and just in time for gifting season

A Hotel Life has always been a kaleidoscope of voices, ideas and discoveries from our friends, editors and contributors from around the world. This year we thought our holiday shopping guide should follow suit, so we asked our besties to inspire us with their wish lists from incredible brands creating incredible things. Their suggestions are so good they’re gonna live on beyond the holidays, and every week or so we will drop a new edit. The treats you’ll find here are future forward at heart: made sustainably and responsibly while being beautiful, useful and fun. You can click on each curator’s guide to find their recommendations. Enjoy!

1.Lily Kwong

Lily is a landscape artist whose mission is to reconnect people to nature. She shares some of her favorite things that draw from the power of the plant world and inspire her.

2.Ben Pundole

AHL's Founder and travel and hospitality guru brings us his favorite treats from doing good to raving — which he thinks are pretty much the same thing. “Isn’t apparel, pampering, pets and a party what we all want for the holidays? If you’re in New York, House of X is where you want to be. Access IRL and online therapists, teachers, practitioners and healers with a membership from the Eden Room; all while wearing your tee from CHNGE, benefitting and highlighting mental health awareness. NOAH is my all time favorite brand and the cool kids in Berlin wear the Salomon sneakers for hiking (with a dog adorned with a pooch collar from Pet-a-Porter) and raving.”

3.Tansy Kaschak

An enthusiast of all things for a fun, healthy and stylish life on a fair, happy and healthy planet, AHL's Editor in Chief shares the beautiful, practical, body and mind nourishing bits she’s the most excited about. "One of the biggest gifts of juggling a life between the wonderful world of A Hotel Life and the rest of the wonderful world out there is that I get to pass along many of the great things I learn and find in my journeys. I am lucky to call a few countries home and to nurture community in a number of different, special places. Amidst a lot of movement, to stay sane, grounded, looking and feeling good, and to tread lightly on the planet, I am always improving my arsenal of tools. I am happy to share some of them here as they also make up for terrific gifts."

4.Prerna Saraff

What's better than learning how to create that home-away-from-home feeling (while being gentle on pachamama) from one of the world's greatest crafts, textile, and gatherings expert? " As a crafts and textile expert who roams the globe in search of the finest goods, I am a seasoned nomad always looking to upgrade my travel experience with juicy hacks which allow me to reduce the weight of my suitcases – so I can fill them with treasures found on the road. Naturally!"

5.Caroline Clements

AHL's Australia Editor shares her list inspired by a few key things: the new taste of freedom after coming out of months of lockdown, the smell of summer in the air down under, and the feeling of supporting local makers and producers. "This year has given us a few things – a lot more time for cooking, listening, reading, watching and being at home. Making our spaces more comfortable and more livable, we’ve spent our travel money on books and homewares, artworks and food. Here are a few of those things. They’re great as gifts for others, or for ourselves."

6.Caroline Lever

Lover of all things travel and culture, AHL's Culture Editor and Director of Culture and Entertainment at The London EDITION, shares her list of treasures made with love. "My favorite things remind me of people and places I love, and several of the items on my list are made by close friends of mine. Besides their kinship, the pieces share a common attitude toward sustainability, a sense of craftsmanship and a love of adventure."

7.Ernesto Roman

AHL's East Coast Editor and savvy treasure hunter shares a selection of items that have been on his radar this year. "A toast to the things that I’ve kept an eye on this past year. Some are practical, some are ethically designed, sustainable, great for your health – and some simply cool and original. In this day and age, we must be smart and conscious about the products we purchase and the footprint we leave behind. Every little bit helps! I ordered the One Clock when it was still a Kickstarter campaign and I love it! I’ve never woken up so gently in my life. Highly recommended."

8.Solynka Dumas

For someone who loves the structural routine of Christmas traditions yet lives a life tragically devoid of routine, the holidays are a time of joy and relief. In my family, every 25th of December is identically orchestrated. We go to church in the morning, drive home, sing songs, share a lavish lunch and finally open our gifts. Just as with anyone, I guess, the number of presents exponentially diminished with age but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. With age, I’ve adopted the motto “buy less, buy better,” and I made this list specifically with that in mind. Every item here is made with love and care. Happy holidays.
