Kvosin Downtown Hotel
by: Kelly LaRotonda
Long weekend getaway to beat the suffocating New York heat.
Me and my best girl friend / PR maven, Sara Powell.
Photos of laundromats through time, very appropriate decor for the Laundromat Cafe.
Very comfortable bed with a view out to the balcony.
Cozy sitting area to relax and watch Inspector Lewis on the television. Adorable, modern bathroom with open waterwork.
Radio and reading.
We found Bjork’s room at our hotel!
Scenic Tjornin Lake directly behind the hotel.
Post-caving walk back to the van on a grey day.
Panoramic view of Reykjavik from Perlan.
Highs + Lows
Incredibly helpful and accommodating front desk service – drew out maps when we asked for directions and always made sure we had cabs / transportation ready and waiting.
Amazing balcony off our room with views of the city and a nice place to step out into the sunshine in the afternoon.
While not exactly a deal breaker for a hotel stay, we really enjoyed the names of each room (particularly the Bjork room), they made it feel more personal and cozy.
Blackout curtains didn’t quite black out the daylight and no blackout curtain for the door to the balcony.
No refrigerator or mini bar, so we couldn’t keep any cold foods (particularly my skyr) in the room, even though we went to the nearby supermarket for a few room essentials like Honey Nut Cheerios...but no milk.

Modern boutique hotel.
Simple, clean, Nordic minimalism.
Easy walk to the main street.
17 rooms (3 currently under renovation so 14 available).
Bjork…at least that’s all I heard in my head.

No, but there is an adorable breakfast shop around the corner.
The bar at the Kvosin Downtown Hotel features the only real wine bar in all of Iceland - everywhere else is a traditional Pub.
Yes and it’s free!
Bring them, but only if they’re able to walk around on their own.
Worth the extra bucks.
