Tulum’s Gitano Touches Down In New York

A Tulum retreat a subway ride away

There tends to be an overlap of people who visit this site with people who think of Tulum as their second home, so when Gitano decides to pop-up in New York for the summer, there’s a palpable feeling of joy. Just days old and Gitano is already the hottest table in the city, as well it should be, since New Yorkers only have a few months to indulge in it. The huge Soho space (which seats over 400) will make you feel like you’re right in Tulum (with a skyline), filled with palm trees and planters surrounding wooden furniture to capture the spirit of the original location. The food is ultra fresh, authentic Mexican food and the mezcal margaritas might make you forget that you’re in New York. There may be no substitute for Tulum itself, but at Gitano we have the next best thing, for now.

Gitano is open until October at 76 Varick Street
