Support Black Artists on Bandcamp Fridays

Since corona virus hit, Bandcamp has decided to waive artist fees on the first Friday of every month, as a way to support the music community who are suddenly without gigs. Now, among social upheaval, we’ve personally seen musicians who currently don’t have income still choose to donate to causes supporting Black Lives Matter and the adjacent campaigns. It’s an opportunity to support artists, but during a week of intense conversation and understanding, it’s also a chance to give attention to black artists. Much of the discussion throughout the week has been about amplifying black voices, and those voices are also entirely responsible for shaping the music we love. There are a ton of artists to discover, as well as some who have been perennial favorites among us and our friends: Blood Orange, Carl Craig, Galcher Lustwerk, AceMoMa, RP Boo, Yves Tumor, Honey Dijon, Actress, Mykki Blanco, and too many more to list here.

Buying music directly from artists is a small gesture, among many larger ones that need to be made, but right now we’re not ignoring any way to give our support and show our appreciation to a community that has been so important to us.
