Burberry Checks Into The Newt
The fashion-hospitality affair continues in the English countryside

By AHL Editorial Team on 06.15.25
This summer, Burberry is swapping the catwalk for wildflower paths and croquet lawns. The storied British brand has found a kindred spirit in The Newt, Somerset’s quietly iconic countryside estate A Hotel Life reviewed in 2021, where a new collaboration unfolds as a seasonal rhythm.
What began with an elegant dinner at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show now lingers across 2,000 acres of orchard, garden, and meadow. The partnership nods to shared sensibilities: a reverence for heritage, a love of craft, and a deep, very British relationship with the outdoors. It’s not about fashion as flash, but as landscape and something to live in, move through, and weather well.
.

The convergence of fashion and hospitality isn’t exactly new, but it’s having a moment. In recent years, we’ve seen brands blur the boundaries between runway and retreat — think Jacquemus’ sun-drenched pop-ups, Gucci’s foray into experiential hotels, Loewe’s art-driven escapes and the upcoming tennis-driven Lacoste hotel. These collaborations don’t just extend brand worlds; they offer a way for travelers to quite literally step inside a mood, a palette, a philosophy. With Burberry and The Newt, it’s less marketing moment, more masterclass in subtle storytelling.
Throughout the estate, understated gestures speak volumes. A bespoke Burberry check, infused with The Newt’s signature green, threads its way through experiences like a signature scent. Golf buggies carry guests past gardens in full bloom, where the croquet lawn bears the iconic pattern mown right into the grass.
Up above, a Burberry Check hot-air balloon offers a rare view of Somerset’s rolling terrain. It’s a nod to the brand’s aeronautical past, when early 20th-century adventurers like Air Commodore Edward Maitland took to the skies in Burberry gabardine.
.

But this is not just about spectacle. It’s about texture, material, and the pleasure of things well-made. The badminton court gets a Burberry moment, complete with check racquets and custom nets. In true countryside form, a boutique on-site stocks seasonal essentials from the brand’s Summer 2025 collection: swimwear, scarves, umbrellas, and trench coats included. Call it a refined readiness for all of England’s moods.
Installations around the estate invite guests to wander, to notice, to slow down. It’s a gentle collision of two brands that understand the power of place and the pull of nostalgia when it’s treated with care. And in that quiet elegance The Newt is known for, you’re reminded that style, like the best kind of travel, is all about how you feel when you’re in it.
