A Home Life with Athena Calderone

Athena Calderone takes us inside her quarantine for our first edition of A Home Life.

Where are you? Who with?
In Amagansett NY with my husband Victor, son Jivan, and puppy Tuco.

People you’ve been thinking about most while in quarantine?
My mom and dad

Biggest Indulgence since staying home?
Cheetos!  Crunchy.  With wine of course.  Ok, fine, ego waffles too.

Hidden hobby or talent that’s revealed itself?
Frisbee!  With Tuco of course. And it seems I am quite good at a daily bath ritual

Favorite item in your home and why?
My dishwasher.  For someone who cooks often, this time spent at home has taken cooking (and hence clean-up) to an unprecedented level!  Never been more appreciative of this workhorse in the kitchen

Best meal you’ve made?
Whole roasted Sumac chicken with roasted veggies and labhne.  And my lemony bucatini carbonara is off the charts yummy.  Definitely perfected during quarantine.

Best thing you’ve watched while at home?
Unorthodox and the new season of Ozarks

Favorite digital/online experience? (Mine was a talent show)
Hmmmm.  I am rather dependent on my meditation app.

Track you’ve had on repeat that’s made you Dance, cry, scream?
We have oddly been playing Drunk in Love a lot –Jivan played the song on night one of quarantine and it has been trapped in my mind ever since.

First trip you’ll take when you can?
I really miss Italy – Aeolian islands or Ischia.  And to return to Copenhagen for a rescheduled book tour.  I shot 3 homes in the city for Live Beautiful.

Quarantine hero?
Cuomo
