Highs & Lows

  • Music and hospitality mogul, Jon Baker, has really created a very special retreat that is cool and authentic with friendly down-to-earth but attentive service. Jon came and said ‘Hi’ at breakfast and offered for one of his teams to take us around the area of Port Antonio, which we did and loved it.

  • This is rainforest living - the wildlife, the trees, the plants. Reggae beats reverberate around the rainforest from the local villages. Cicadas, tree frogs and reggae - unbeatable sunset sounds.

  • What do you do if Banksy stays … get the spray paint out! The Sanwood Villa is really special, not just because of the beautiful design and the swimming pool, but because of the music prints on the wall and original rat art graffiti by Banksy.

  • Breakfast was really good every day and the service was always spot on and friendly. I think to take it up a notch the dinner menu could be more varied and more authentically Jamaican.

Important Bits

  • Type

Private Hotel. 'Boutique’ doesn’t do Geejam justice, this is the ultimate retreat.

  • Vibe

    Rockstar oasis.

  • Location

Geejam’s few suites are spread out through the rainforest with all the sites and sounds of a jungle. Sit on the veranda and you won’t notice another person. All suites have a view of the sea as well as trees and foliage and wildlife completely surrounding them.

  • Rooms

4 suites and one 3-bedroom villa. But that’s not all; Geejam has a state-of-the-art recording studio where the likes of Alicia Keys, Drake and Bjork have all recorded their music, as well as the legendary Grace Jones.

  • Music

There were always great reggae tunes in Bush Bar. Music seemed to be well chosen and thought out, we appreciated it anyway.

  • Year Opened

    2007

  • Designed By

Owner Jon Baker and Victor Haye.

  • Health & Wellness

Sanwood, the 3-bedroom villa, has a pool. Some of the others have jacuzzi’s on verandas and the sea is just down some steps. There’s even a small but well-equipped gym too.

  • Restaurant

The Bush Bar restaurant and bar is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves drinks all day. The menu offers a variety of Jamaican dishes as well as Mediterranean inspired plates. After we had a chat with the lovely head chef, he went off menu and cooked up some delicious local Jamaican fish with extra Scotch Bonnett peppers and all the Jamaican trimmings. So good!

  • Bar

Bush Bar serves cocktails, beer and wine. The night we arrived we were lucky enough to hear the Jamaican band The Jolly Boys play live. Their rendition of Rehab by Amy Winehouse was particularly brilliant.

  • Minibar

Yes, a fridge full of Ting and other drinks and snacks.

  • Children

    Why not.

  • Price

Expensive but totally worth it, guests are so very well looked after and the suites are stunning.
