A Look Inside Alice Longyu Gao’s Pink & Furry NYFW Harajuku Beauty Bar
Capturing the artist’s signature style

For participants fashion week, when the only thing more jarring than the head-spinning schedule is the amount of flashbulbs going off at every turn, beauty pop-ups are reassuring. For industry insiders, these pamper parties ensure that lush locks and perfect makeup are the only certainty amid the chaos. But with her ‘Pericura (version 2.0)’ pop-up at the Moxy Times Square, performance artist, DJ, and media personality Alice Longyu Gao is offering something else entirely.
At Pericura, which is equal parts beauty pop-up and art installation, guests are immediately treated to an explosion of pink in fur and glitter. Gao has always presented a bold style, taking maximalist fashion tropes inspired by years living in Asia, and presenting them as unique, alternative fashion. In Pericura, this Harajuku paradise offers something that few other beauty bars do: fun. Like Gao’s style, Pericura is bursting with the kind of colors, textures, and characters reserved for the adventurous (which is becoming the norm for the fashion subsects now dictating the entire industry). Gao enlisted celebrity hairstylist Kahh Spence, Mei Kawajiri for nails, and stylist Etsuna Otsuka, each who guests can set appointments with. Regulars of the Moxy will be right at home, at least based on the kind of crowd the hotel has drawn in its first few months. But for everyone else, Pericura is a space to avoid the drab, and do Fashion Week the way it’s supposed to be done.
Pericura (version 2.0) is open February 10th-14th, 12pm-7pm at the Moxy Times Square
