Scarlet Envy’s NYC Pride Guide

We met with the drag queen superstar at the New York EDITION to find out what to do and where to be at this year’s anticipated pride celebration. NYC Pride is here so get used to it!

6.18.21

A Kentucky native, but Brooklyn girl by heart, you may know Scarlet Envy for her decade-long career entertaining around the world, from NYC dive bars to international audiences as a contestant in “RuPaul’s Drag Race (Season 11).” She will be returning to your screen in the upcoming sixth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars.” Scarlet is also always in the know, so we asked her to share her very hectic Pride agenda, below.

But before we go any further, for more of Scarlet, make sure to book tickets to two very special events: Scarlet’s “All Stars Season 6” screening on June 24 and ALLSTAR on July 14 —  the NYC debut of her newest solo cabaret show featuring musical direction from Paisley Field and guest appearances.

The Illustrious Blacks celebrate Juneteenth and Pride

The Illustrious Blacks celebrate Juneteenth and Pride at their first in-person show in over a year at C’Mon Everybody, everyone’s favorite Bed-Stuy music venue. The ferociously talented performance duo is made up of Queer married couple Monstah Black and Manchildblack. They’re a riot of hypnotic choreography, costume, performance art, and disco-dirt, pushing Afro-Futurism into popular culture while making the vision of inclusive love, life and art a living dream. Taste it here on their brand new track Everybody, with acclaimed producer Hallex M.

Sat, June 19, 2021, 8:00 p.m. EST at C’Mon Everybody, tickets here.

Starr Busby’s mind-bending musical performance

C’mon Everybody is also the musical home to performer Starr Busby, returning for their first post-quarantine Brooklyn show with Eric Lane. An operatic oracle of music, Starr brings mind-bending vocals and an out-of-body mood to their experimental shows of sound, light, dance, and magic words. Their Pride Week show features new music from their EP, “9 Cups To The Moon,” and chronicles a murky, winding, sometimes chaotic journey to self-acceptance and love. It’s impossible to know exactly what you’ll get as each show experience is different, but it is guaranteed to mesmerize.

Wed, June 23, 2021, 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. EST, at C’Mon Everybody, tickets here.

Daphne Always at Club Cumming

Also on Pride Saturday, June 26 is Daphne Always — my best friend’s birthday show at Club Cumming which has always been one of my home bars in the city, started by the fabulous Alan Cumming. It’s a chic space without forsaking the dive bar energy I love about downtown spots. Amazing pop-up shows and dancing!

Your local gay bars

Let’s not forget to get gritty and about the beauty of a local gay bar. I love Nowhere Bar on 14th Street, The Cock (iconic in NYC) Cubbyhole (SUPPORT THE LESBIANS! These bars are disappearing the fastest), The Boiler Room (dive bar, pool tables, iconic). Metropolitan Bar — Post pride BBQ on Sunday FREE FOOD QUEER FOLKS $5 (proof of vaccination) — casual and fun. My heart lives in the backyard! Cheap drinks, pool table, locals (my most memorable nights at Metro are Straight Acting, Jizz, AlottaTrivia and Queeraoke). And of course the National Gay Historic Landmark, and major tourist spot The Stone Wall Inn and their wonderful initiatives + safe space concerts.

More info on The Stone Wall Inn events here.

Get your hair did

Before you head out, get your hair did at at Spoke and Wheel. My hair guys are Jason Zeren (cuts) and Genna Still (Master colorist). They do an amazing K18 treatment that keeps my hair gorgeous. They are in Flatiron (Just across the park from The NY Edition Hotel!!) They give me the full fantasy!

Then after the hair appointment ……”MAKE SURE TO STOP BY MAC STORE SOHO TO PICK UP YOUR LIQUID LAST LINERS 100% OF PROCEEDS GO TO HETRICK MARTIN INSTITUTE!!! THIS IS MAJOR! A great way to give back to LGBTQIA+ and also the product is SO pigmented and smooth, I’m obsessed.”

Have a New York EDITION cocktail

The EDITION properties around the world will help celebrate PRIDE and recognize the LGBTQIA+ community by serving a specialty cocktail from which a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the NYC’s LGBT Center. The concept behind the offering is that diversity is the beating heart of the LGBTQIA+ community, with the rainbow of colors we see in the Pride flag a perfect depiction — both visually and symbolically — of those it represents. To celebrate every stripe and every identity, from June 20 – 30 visitors to EDITION Hotels can try this tasty cocktail, as diverse as the flag itself. And for those that want to try it at home, they shared their recipe with us here:

The Recipe:

L – Lillet Rose (0.5oz)

G – Green Chartreuse (0.25oz)

B – Blueberry Syrup (0.75 oz)

T – Tequila (1.5oz – tequila blanco)

Q – Quina infusion (this is in the blueberry syrup)

(0.75oz lemon juice – this doesn’t have a letter)

Rainbow Glitter (garnish)
