THE KENSINGTON HOTEL

WHERE: London, UK

WHY WE WANT TO BOOK IT: To step into a storied past with a worldly present. The Kensington is a 116-key hotel housed in historic buildings along Queen’s Gate in London’s South Kensington. The location is fantastic, especially if you are coming to town for a good dose of culture. You can find the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Natural History Museum within a 5-minute walk. Harrods, Sloane Square, and Kensington Gardens are a slightly further stroll away.

HOW ARE THE ROOMS? This is a classic Victorian townhouse, so the common areas and the guest rooms and suites are decorated to evoke a sense of that era’s grandeur. Heritage accents like paneled walls, statement headboards, boldly patterned toile wallpapers, and plush armchairs pair with modern amenities (we love a built-in reading light) and sleek marble bathrooms.

WHAT ELSE IS CALLING MY NAME? The epicurean experiences. Breakfast is served in the first-floor dining rooms each morning and we can choose from coffee in the cozy, wood-paneled library or a full English in the bright sitting room. Afternoon tea (a UK must!) is served daily, and in the evening, the K Bar makes for an intimate nightcap spot.

BEST TIME TO VISIT London’s cultural life never takes a break, but if you’d rather skip the crowds and sidestep a summer heat wave, we love a visit in shoulder season. Rainy day? Take advantage of the exclusive partnership The Doyle Collection, The Kensington’s parent brand, has with the Victoria & Albert Museum and visit one of the most sought-after shows in town, even if it’s sold out.
