The Standard Maldives Is a Relaxing Oasis (Tinged With a Little Disco)
Drinks, disco, and dolphins
It’s the time of the year when we’re most wistful as to how to escape the impending cold. Close your eyes and picture where you would rather be once the frosty lows of winter hit; our guess is clear blue waters, a fruity cocktail on the beach, maybe even some dolphins and tortoises to befriend. Thanks to The Standard that trip can be real, with the launch of their most far-flung outpost yet: The Standard Maldives. The island it’s situated on is as dreamy and secluded as you could imagine, just a short sea plane ride outside Malé. With 115 villas lining the beach or even floating atop the lagoon, each with its own private deck and plunge pool, the hotel is designed for relaxation—but with the option of the electric social experience the Standard has managed to cultivate throughout all of its properties. There are six dining options here, including the restaurant Guduguda where Maldivian cuisine is cooked by local “aunties,” and a beachfront BBQ Shak, where freshly caught seafood is cooked to perfection. Of course there’s a disco ball housed at the club BeruBar, which is above the ocean and features a glass-bottom dance floor. For those who are looking more for a relaxing beach vacation, The Standard has its signature Spa complete with a hammam, aroma steam room, and yoga classes. That’s in addition to the more exciting excursions you can go on, from snorkeling to private boat tours to see dolphins. A great vacation means all of your basic needs are met, but there’s also opportunity for adventure always waiting for you around the corner. The Standard Maldives is the complete package, and makes the prospect of journeying over to the Maldives that much more exciting.
