The West Hollywood EDITION Opens with a Bang

Disco ball galore

[Ian Schrager, Janelle Monae, Frank Roberts]

The West Hollywood EDITION is open…again! Following a private friends & family event two weeks ago (that wasn’t so quiet after all, with guests including Leonardo DiCaprio, Beck, and Diplo, who returned to DJ this week), the latest in Ian Schrager’s growing chain had an official launch this week. The EDITION’s last opening took place across the country for Ian Schrager’s return to Times Square so the West Hollywood location had a lot to live up to and judging by the first week it’s bound to be the hottest spot in L.A. Schrager has been known to blend throwback performances with modern acts for his openings (Diana Ross kicked off Times Square) and this time guests were treated to a surprise show by Chaka Khan marking the debut of the new Sunset club alongside a rooftop performance by Sofi Tukker. Rounding things off was a set by internationally renowned disco-house-sleaze expert DJ Harvey. Like Times Square, John Fraser returned this time around to design the menu at Ardor, which takes advantage of the fresh California ingredients so readily available. More than anything else, it gave guests a first taste of the property, with each EDITION increasingly showing its own regional flavor. Here in the John Pawson designed hotel, a Sterling Ruby sculpture hangs in the main lobby; disco balls fill the ceilings of Sunset; a grand pool overlooking the Hollywood skyline; the greenery surrounding diners in Ardor. If opening week has proved one thing, it’s the EDITION is a perfect fit for Hollywood, and will be the place for all of its glitz and glamour for the foreseeable future.
