Paris Design Week.
My designer/builder husband + me.
As well as graffiti and collage walls in the bar area. Bonkers but kind of wonderful.
MAMA SHELTER side on. The old graffitied up railway provides the backdrop to breakfast on the terrace.
The bed. Masks of cartoon characters adorn the bedside lamps.
Our room. Apple screen with WiFi, free films and photo booth included.
We had Scooby-Doo x 2!
Our very own photo booth pic.
The bathroom. Pretty small, but all you need.
The mirror/notice board by the lifts is updated each day to let guests know what’s happening in the restaurants and bar that day and night.
MAMA SHELTER Paris has both a pizzeria and a bistro as well as a large bar that opens out on to the terrace.
All sorts of things are written in chalk on the blackboard ceiling of the bar, bistro and pizzeria open-plan space.
Here Phillipe Starck is at his best. Expect lighting installations made from children’s rubber rings and calligraphy on the ceiling.
MAMA SHELTER’s street façade.
Highs + Lows
Loved the restaurant. We had the angus steak and gruyere macaroni and cheese. Words cannot describe…
Each room comes with an Apple flat screen which provides free WiFi, movies and a photo booth function for hours of fun dressing up in the cartoon masks provided and taking selfies
Rooftop bar also a winner. Great cocktails and a cool vibe.
The carpet in the bedrooms is kind of awful. Throws off the whole look in my opinion - Philippe what were you thinking?
You’re not actually allowed to take photos, which made shooting for the review a little tricky and the atmosphere of the staff sometimes a little irritating.
It’s a little bit in the middle of nowhere, or at least on a very long road to somewhere. Take a cab or the bus along the main road West and it’ll turn into Rue de Charonne. That’s where you want to be.

Family pizzeria meets den of iniquity… in a good way.
Pretty far out to the East.
Progressive low wave.

YES. Best bit about the whole hotel. You must go and you must have the steak. Actually, you should also find someone to go with you to have the Gruyere Macaroni cheese!
Yes. Great DJ.
Yep. And more. Each room has a large Apple flat screen, which provides WiFi access, free movies and a photo booth for selfies.
Probably leave them at home.
Good range from cheapish to luxury based on size of room.
