Tollboden Hotel is a 19-room heritage stay set in the center of Kragerø’s old town, where sloping beams, apple-tree gardens, and a reimagined barn define the summer spirit. Originally built in 1783 and reopened in 2018 by Unike Hoteller, it blends cottage-like Norwegian charm with a sleek Scandinavian lounge feel. Ideally located for ferry rides to surrounding islands and swims along the coast, this little jewel captures the fleeting brilliance of a Norwegian summer.

A comfortable room in chic bone, grey and brown tones that fits two adults and one small toddlesaurous
The toddlesaurous found the miniature toiletries perfectly sized and lightswitches especially functional
Nothing says “welcome” and “mom, you need a glass after he sleeps” like a bottle of prosecco
This is what gets my heart pumping. An enchanted countryside courtyard with rose bushes
A great little hotel to stay with a turbo toddler, an enclosed backyard space is a must
Such a nice afternoon spot, under the barn with little snack and a glass of chilled
Out exploring the coastal town! Heatwave and all
Dinner at the hotels restaurant just on the water, a lovely sunny moment for the whole family

Isn’t this just divine. People jumping, swimming, exploring. The energy of Northern summer is unbeatable
Jomfruland island outing and the picture perfect everything. We cycled, explored the farm and just spend time on the white sand beach with countless snacks
Breakfast buffet is a continental table with plenty of local goodies and endless black coffee, just like the Norwegians like it
This is one of my oldest friends, Jana, bless her heart, the most patient of people. Being a step parent this trip and sharing a bed with Ziggy
I just adore these crooked beams in the shared livingroom. A slick and calm space (until Ziggy showed up)
All packed and ready to go! What a wonderful 2 night stay it was. Definitely want to come back and bring friends and family

We loved the back terrace amongst the apple trees and the wild strawberries.

Property shows such a soul and history with its crooked beams and charming old country layout. Guests can even stay in a converted barn.

Location! It’s worth a trip just for a night or two to explore the divine area of Kragerø. We came without a car and it was so easy to move around the town and nearby islands by ferry.

I am a Norwegian but even I am not used to sleeping with the sun shining at 10pm. The black out curtains left a frame of light around them, and also me pretty sleepless. I won’t blame Ziggy for once.
