"Roman Baroque meets the hedonism of the 1970s"
Set in a former 19th-century bank in Rome’s embassy-lined Ludovisi district, Experimental Roma is one of the Eternal City’s most anticipated new openings. Reimagined by interior architect Rodolphe Parente, its interiors create a contemporary take on Roman grandeur, pairing Baroque flourishes and antiquities with the hedonistic spirit of the 1970s. Throughout, the hotel channels the cinematic glamour of neighboring Via Veneto, forever immortalized in Fellini’s La Dolce Vita. 82 guestrooms and suites offer an elegant respite, while a rooftop pool, terrace, and bar take in sweeping views over Rome. Downstairs, a bustling lobby brings together Chef Giovanni Passerini’s Italo-Disco Ludovisi e Cadore restaurant and an intimate new outpost of the group’s Experimental Cocktail Club.

Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience
Guests can book directly via the hotel’s website, or via the major booking platforms. We were led to the lobby’s expansive dining space upon arrival and offered coffee and snacks while our room was prepared. I was lucky enough to meet the Experimental Group’s HQ team who were there for the property’s inaugural opening.

Designed By
Experimental Group tapped renowned Interior Architect Rodolphe Parente to restore a 19th-century bank building off the Via Veneto into the Experimental Roma. Parente’s interiors layer the many compositions, eras and styles that define the Eternal City, with a French lens on Roman elegance. Honoring the neighborhood’s cinematic legacy, the hotel references the Italian modernist masters of Gio Ponti, Carlo Scarpa and Luigi Caccia Domioni with nods to the 1970s via chrome tubing, disco-inspired accents, colorful hardware, Lurex carpets, rich fabrics and a sculptural staircase.
-
Health & Wellness
While the property lacks a gym and spa, the rooftop terrace and pool are a serene environment for enjoying Rome’s weather and cooling off from the heat. Cozy up with a book, a drink from the rooftop bar and soak up the sun and views of the city’s many iconic buildings.
-
Food
The lobby’s restaurant Ludovisi e Cadore was quite the scene, with the who’s who of Rome filtering in and out of the hotel. Celebrated for his food in Paris, Chef Giovanni Passerini returns to his home city with a menu honoring humble Italian cuisine, with plenty of local cheeses, Pistachio-flavored desserts, and classics from Tonnarelli Caccio e Pepe and a Tagliatelle with Osso Bucco Ragù to French touches such as a Ricotta and fresh herb Ravioli in Normandy butter to Beef Tartare and Mi-Cuit Wild Prawn in a warm Verbena sauce.
-
Bar, Events & Nightlife
It’s always a treat when your hotel bar is an actual hotspot for the city’s locals. A new intimate outpost of Experimental Cocktail Club is discreetly tucked right off the lobby, joining locations in London, Paris, New York, Verbier, the Cotswolds and Val-d'Isère. Open from 18:00 to late, the sultry interiors, perfect soundtrack, extensive drink menu and vintage spirits provide the ultimate aperitivo or night-cap experience.
-
Minibar & Retail
Given Experimental Group’s cocktail-focus, the guest rooms feature centerpiece bars built into the armoire, with a gorgeous tortoiseshell base and reflective gold paneling. The bar is stocked with plenty of accoutrements for an in-room fete, from mixing sets and mini libations to pre-bottled signature cocktails from downstairs ECC. There’s also a great selection of teas, gorgeous ceramic drinkware and a Sjöstrand coffee machine in the room.
