Most of the rooms overlook the Courtyard Brasserie, which
serves what they term a “playful”, “seasonal” menu.

Even the smallest rooms have impressively spacious living quarters complete with well-stocked kitcheonettes (and a washer/drier!)

Minimal mini bar, but you had me at Le Labo.

Cut to the next morning…the only thing better than a good night’s sleep is the opportunity to channel Julia Roberts’ room service moment from Pretty Woman. (And they happily let me order a customized meal.)

I asked for a room with an outdoor terrace but it turned out to be more like a good place to send your travel companion on a timeout.

A few memorable details.

The extended lobby/bar area is home to a bustling cocktail crowd at night, and has lots of cozy, separate nooks for intimate meetings and daytime hangs.

I used to think LA lacked character, but charming spots like Palihouse, just a block off the flashy Sunset Strip, feel like home to a recent East Coast transplant.
