Because Hans is from London, we love a pub. So when Hans moved back to NY, he made Iona his second home — a Scottish bar with a backyard, best in warm weather. We cook a lot, so we spend a lot of time shopping for produce at Marlow & Daughters and Greenpoint Fish and Lobster.

Even though we mostly cook, here are some of our classics from the area where we sometimes take inspiration: Birria-Landia’s truck near the BQE, our two favorite Italian spots Misi and Lilia, Japanese at Ume and Samurai Mama. An excellent place for an afternoon wine and a bite is Four Horsemen

A great wine spot is Spuyten Duyvil. Five Leaves is another classic near McCarren Park. Our favorite coffee spots are Devocion and Butler. The best croissant ever is at Nick + Sons. Definitely recommend trying Win Son Bakery, a Taiwanese bakery — they also have a fantastic restaurant just across the street (Win Son). Our go-to for Chinese is Birds of a Feather. For more of a fine dining experience, a gem from the area is Aska, a seasonal Scandinavian restaurant with tasting menus.
