"Desert mountain getaway with jawdropping views"
AT A GLANCE: Tucked away a couple of blocks from the main drags of Palm Springs, and once the stomping grounds of Charlie Chaplin, opera singer Lawrence Tibbet, and Anais Nin. Casa Cody and its bougainvillea-ladened grounds offer a boutique, spa, and multi-pool holiday retreat that is befitting for the young, elder, and four-legged. Be sure to leave space in your luggage to grab treats and goodies from the marketplace. To quote our contributor Janet Mercel, “There was not one of the thoughtful, conscious, well-intentioned items I didn’t want to take home.”
Highs & Lows
-
Great use of the property. Seasonal produce from the onsite gardens are incorporated whenever possible into salads, charcuterie boards, cocktails, etc. — Serrano peppers, celery, tomatoes, and lavender in the simple syrup
-
Location. Central to town, gorgeous secluded property to roam, unbeatable views
-
Vibe! The manager told me when life is stressful, he walks around the grounds and his "blood pressure automatically goes down just being here." I felt similarly
-
Major legacy. Harriet Cody founded Casa Cody in the early 20th century as a horse stable and accommodations for friends and family. Charlie Chaplin, opera singer Lawrence Tibbet, and Anais Nin were familiar visitors, and Harriet also served as host to circus and dressage performer pals
-
Provisions. Everything was fresh, and although there was no table service dining, the cold-prepared menu was meticulous and well done. Drink offerings are equally delicious
-
The Marketplace. There was not one of the thoughtful, conscious, well-intentioned items I didn't want to take home
-
Many different kinds of accommodations — standard rooms are available. Still, we had an entire multi-room cottage with a full kitchen and outdoor space. Invaluable for families or perfect for more extended stays
-
Some minor details were less than smooth — like our kitchen had only one bowl and some mismatched settings that made cooking dinner a challenge. But the enthusiastic and helpful staff quickly attended to any snags we ran into
