Highs & Lows

  • The people are the absolute best, from Matt to Shelonie they made us feel at home from before we even arrived

  • The actual rooms are stunning, while it may look like a tent they are simple, stylish and surprisingly warm. I adored the attention to detail even the salt lamps made me feel calmer

  • Excellent WiFi, just because the actual reserve is secluded doesn’t mean you can’t mix a bit of work and play

  • Food truly surpassed my expectations, it felt creative without being overly fussy and they incorporated the local produce brilliantly

  • The dining area — there is a great mix of communal and private dining which allowed us to befriend fellow guests without being overly intrusive

  • If this is your first safari experience, I would recommend you stay at a property in a national reserve like Mundulea Nature Reserve or Etosha, which can offer a more extensive selection of game to view

Important Bits

  • Type

    Desert retreat

  • Vibe

    Sustainable desert opulence

  • Location

Habitas Namibia is 61 km from the centre of Windhoek

  • Rooms

    15 tented suites

  • Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience

The team couldn’t have made it easier to book and share our requirements (J, my friend is a vegetarian) with a seamless pick-up at the Habitas Namibia gate. I loved that we kept in touch through WhatsApp, which became super helpful when we ran out of petrol in our rental car and were delayed by a few hours — the petrol story is one for another day

  • Future Forward

Zero-waste, cultural programming with an immersive bushman walk, indigenous tea tasting. The brand also runs a community impact initiative, Habitas RISE, in partnership with Saira Hospitality, that offers employment opportunities and hospitality training for locals interested in such work

  • Music

Ambient desert sounds meets Tulum-inspired beats

  • Year Opened

    2021

  • Designed By

    Habitas

  • Health & Wellness

Pool (although it was so cold, all we could do was longingly admire it), and wellness treatments were available in a lovely secluded tent — the hot stone massage was so good that I all but floated afterwards

  • Food

Traditionally game reserves focus on a meat-heavy menu which had me slightly worried for my vegetarian companion. But, I am delighted to say that Habitas Namibia surpassed all expectations — I found myself even opting for some of the veggie dishes. Breakfasts that will have you keen to linger longer with everything from fresh fruit, pumpkin pancakes to perfectly cooked shakshuka and lunches that include smoky grilled corn with homemade aioli a great blend of traditional food with a twist

  • Bar, Events & Nightlife

The only nightlife is the cacophony of animal sounds that lull you to sleep — which is perfect for a peaceful retreat. Habitas Namibia has a host of daily programming to keep you as busy (or as lazy) as you’d like. From tea tasting to storytelling and even movie screenings, you may never want to head back to the city

  • Minibar & Retail

The essentials were stocked in the mini-bar, considering how much we ate at each meal it was perfect

  • Accessibility

    Not wheelchair accessible

  • Pet Friendly

    Pets are not allowed

  • Children

Children older than 12 years are welcome

  • Price

For the experience you get, it’s a great value

Hotel Location Habitas Namibia, Namibia

Habitas Namibia is located 45 minutes away from the airport and just over an hour from the city. It’s a scenic drive that prepares you for the immersion in nature you’ll get to experience at the camp. We had a moment of awe at the actual location of Habitas Namibia, perched atop a hill when you drive up spotting giraffes and springbok you can’t help but feel like you’re in a postcard.
