Hotel Monte Cristo Paris
- Where:Paris, France
- Why:The tail end of an eat-pray-love type journey.
- When:July 2019
- Who:Moi.
Highs & Lows
-
The hotel pays homage to the literary great Alexandre Dumas (hence the name, Hotel Monte Cristo). This motif has been expertly interwoven throughout the hotel without feeling overly themey or cheesy.
-
Indoor pool?! Enough said.
-
The design is a clever mix of pattern, color, old & new. Apparently the designers sourced hundreds of antiques to fill the hotel.
-
As someone in design, I couldn't get enough of the branding. Every little thing, from the soap dish to the carpets in the hallways, was emblazoned with the Monte Cristo monogram.
-
All good things must come to an end. But I can't blame Monte Cristo for my departure from Paris. Although it was a real low point of the trip.

If you're lucky enough to be there on the first Friday of the month (which I was) the museum stays open late with live music. I happened to catch some jazz.

Unassuming from the outside, this is the Parisian cafe to end all Parisian cafes.
