Important Bits

  • Type

    Luxury lifestyle

  • Vibe

Eclectic with subtle references to Dutch art, balanced by clean lines and a touch of romanticism

  • Location

Perfectly placed in Amsterdam's canal belt

  • Rooms

    A lot-- alot, over 200

  • Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience

Communication leading up to the stay felt warm and attentive without being overly formal

  • Future Forward

Housed within restored canal houses, the property celebrates Amsterdam’s heritage while incorporating contemporary design which is really well balanced through the design. There’s a clear emphasis on craftsmanship, community, and storytelling throughout the space, creating a stay that feels culturally connected, it also feels like a mix of locals of Amsterdam frequent the spaces as well as tourists

  • Music

Quiet and peaceful overall, with soft ambient music in the background and moments of birdsong drifting in from the canals and inner courtyards. The atmosphere felt calm and unhurried — more serene townhouse retreat than bustling city hotel

  • Year Opened

    1970

  • Designed By

    Jacu Strauss

  • Health & Wellness

A modern gym and well serviced bikes for hire, that became one of the highlights of the stay. Cycling everywhere like the locals added a more immersive rhythm to exploring the city and made Amsterdam feel instantly more intimate and accessible

  • Food

Breakfast had a wonderfully charming, slow-morning atmosphere — the kind that makes you want to linger over coffee a little longer. The staff were attentive in a genuinely personal way, and by the end of the stay it felt as though they already knew our usual order and rhythm. The menu covered all the breakfast classics, each done beautifully, but the pancakes was the undeniable standout: indulgent, perfectly golden, and just decadent enough to feel like a holiday ritual

  • Bar, Events & Nightlife

The bar had an unmistakably glamorous, old-Amsterdam feel - intimate, atmospheric, and clearly beloved by locals as much as hotel guests. Several of our friends who live in Amsterdam had already recommended it as a go-to spot for cocktails, and it absolutely lived up to the reputation. While I stayed cosy with ginger tea, my partner declared the Old Fashioned a standout

  • Minibar & Retail

Impressively well curated, with an excellent selection of spirits, soft drinks, teas, and a very good in-room coffee machine that made mornings feel effortless. The offering felt more boutique than standard hotel minibar - thoughtful rather than purely functional. A standout was the pre-made Negroni, which was a delight and surprisingly well balanced. The inclusion of Dutch sweets was a charming local touch

  • Accessibility

It is made up of historic canal houses, so some areas naturally include narrow corridors, steps, and level changes that reflect the original architecture. That said, there are accessible routes and rooms available, and staff are generally attentive and willing to assist with mobility needs

  • Pet Friendly

Yes! I love this for hotels! We would have loved to bring our dog Margarita - she would have had a great stay, especially for canal side walks -  next time for sure. In the meantime, we still got to meet a few other furry, charming guests

  • Children

Children are welcome, though the vibe leans more quietly grown-up. We didn’t bring our daughter this time, but the few children we did see were remarkably in step with the hotel’s calm, almost reverent energy. They instinctively understood the assignment

  • Price

Reassuringly on the pricier side, but in a way that feels deserved rather than excessive

Right in the heart of Amsterdam’s canal belt, surrounded by the 9 streets and historic waterways. Perfectly placed for exploring everything by bike. Rarely more than 15 minutes anywhere we wanted to go, yet it still felt like a quiet oasis to return to after the bustle. Lively canals just outside, but calm, tucked-away serenity the moment you step back inside.
