Highs & Lows

  • The people — Owners Adam and Sarah are so inspiring. Sussurro is a true labor of love that trickles down to every single person on their team, who make you feel like family (and make it very hard to leave)!

  • Warm hospitality, but playing behind the scenes — it's like they could read my mind?!

  • Design — The way the vernacular design allows light to play with the Mozambican surroundings is nothing short of spectacular.

  • Dedication to being sustainable, beyond the glass water bottles most hotels settle for, while still maintaining a level of luxe.

  • You may or may not shed a tear when the time comes to put on shoes and bid adieu.

  • For those lucky enough to mix work and play, be sure to let them know ahead of time and they'll sort you out with a complimentary loaded SIM, as Wi-Fi isn’t really a thing in heaven.

Important Bits

  • Type

    A collection of 6 design-led bungalows

  • Vibe

Textbook definition of barefoot, luxury, island living — no shoes are required at any point during this stay

  • Location

    Blissfully off the grid

  • Rooms

    6

  • Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience

Surpassed all expectations — owners, Adam and Sarah, personally picked us up and greeted us with reusable canteens and ice cold, homemade ginger-beer, as we quickly kicked off our shoes and settled into island life

  • Future Forward

A 10/10 for future forward. The property is run on solar energy, zero single-use plastics, ocean- and garden-to-table cuisine, local artisanal fishing, and even a mangrove reforestation project

  • Music

You'll be shazamming from the second you step foot onto the property — the perfect soundtrack of Afrobeats + chill from across the continent

  • Year Opened

    2021

  • Designed By

Zimbabwean-born owners Adam and Sarah dreamed, designed and physically built the property themselves with local tradesmen who are still part of the Sussurro family today. Championing local craft was of utmost importance, with every single item 100% African-made; including woven baskets from Zimbabwe, Senufo stools from Ivory Coast, and lounge chairs handwoven on site, to name a few

  • Health & Wellness

Stunning saltwater lap pool, yoga deck, and SUP are available to all guests. Scuba and water sports can also be arranged

  • Food

Ocean-to-fork complemented with produce grown on site — every single meal was better than the next, and the open-plan kitchen lets the foodies stroll in and see whats cooking

  • Bar, Events & Nightlife

While the bar may look hidden and unassuming, be rest assured Obert and Jeremiah can serve quite a mean cocktail, all prepared from fresh produce and local superfoods. Be sure to try the "Mama S", infused with fresh basil from the garden or the Wild Granadilla martini

  • Minibar & Retail

Not a minibar type of place. In terms of retail, almost all items on the property are available for purchase, and rumor has it a capsule collection of ethically sourced and breathable resort wear is underway as well

  • Accessibility

    Yes

  • Pet Friendly

Definitely. The real stars of the welcoming committee are the couple's dashing dachshunds, Lucca and Kitu, whose hobbies include chasing the trespassing monkeys and visiting birds

  • Children

  • Price

    Worth every Mozambican metical
