TRUNK (HOTEL) YOYOGI PARK
- Where:
- Why:In town for TENNOZ ART WEEK and just obsessed with Tokyo
- When:September 2026, aka typhoon season
- Who:Flying solo, with a friend who joined for one night
"A secret, very stylish slice of Tokyo serenity"
TRUNK(HOTEL) YOYOGI PARK opened in 2023 in Tomigaya, directly across the street from Yoyogi Park. You buzz yourself in and check in at a small sitting room, and the 25 rooms keep that residential calm. Keiji Ashizawa Design and Norm Architects built it around the park’s treetops, with art from Atelier Yamanami hung throughout. Don’t miss the guests-only rooftop pool, heated year-round.
Highs & Lows
-
The top-floor Owner’s Suite is straight-up fantasy material. It’s the only room on the floor, perched directly above the rooftop pool, with huge windows facing Yoyogi Park, a separate living room and two lush private terraces. The enormous freestanding soaking tub is another major highlight
-
There’s something especially nice about how discreet the hotel feels. You buzz into an unassuming entrance, check in inside a small sitting area and can come and go without ever dealing with some chaotic grand-lobby scene
-
The staff are superb. Warm and attentive, but never hovering or laying on that overly rehearsed five-star service. Even their chic neutral-toned uniforms are stylishly relaxed, looking more like something you’d spot inside a Daikanyama concept store than your standard luxury-hotel getup
-
TRUNK(POOL CLUB) absolutely lives up to the photos. After watching it pour for what felt like forever, finally getting that brief rain-free evening swim with Yoyogi Park’s greenery stretching out in front of me felt particularly sublime
-
The art was one of my favorite details. The hotel features work by artists from Atelier Yamanami, a Japanese social welfare facility that supports artists with intellectual disabilities, with pieces popping up throughout the property and inside the guest rooms. Some are even available to buy
-
I stayed here during some seriously wet typhoon-season weather, so the Owner’s Suite’s two gorgeous leafy terraces spent most of my stay taunting me from behind the glass. Mother Nature’s fault rather than TRUNK’s, but go when you might see sun!

Pre-Arrival & Arrival Experience
The team was warm, responsive and easy to reach before arrival, which only made me more excited to check in. Blink and you might miss the understated entrance. No big marble lobby here - buzz yourself in and be welcomed into a hushed little sitting room
-
Future Forward
Coffee grounds from the hotel are sent back to partner farms to be used as compost, and some of the produce grown there eventually makes its way back into the hotel’s kitchen. A portion of every oyster sale at TRUNK(POOL CLUB) is also donated to marine conservation organizations
-
Music
I don’t really remember, which means it was some appropriately ambient situation that blended into the hotel’s whole serene, low-key vibe

Health & Wellness
The sixth-floor TRUNK(POOL CLUB) is the hotel’s biggest pinch-me moment, with a year-round heated infinity pool, jetted hot tub and fire pit overlooking the treetops of Yoyogi Park and Tokyo’s iconic skyline. It’s reserved for overnight guests - the intimacy is real. When my friend and I finally caught a break in the rain and went for an evening dip, we had the entire pool to ourselves. After days of typhoon-season downpours, floating there with nobody else around felt surreal
-
Food
PIZZERIA e TRATTORIA L’OMBELICO, the hotel’s gorgeous ground-floor Italian restaurant, is a quietly luxe mix of concrete and warm wood, with cane-backed chairs, tall sun-filtering screens and a wood-fired oven. One morning I had an acai bowl, the next a yogurt bowl, both ridiculously fresh and the healthy reset I needed after weeks of inhaling karaage and konbini snacks. The fresh blood orange juice was wonderfully tart every AM. My friend went for the oishii Burrata and Prosciutto Soufflé Omelet. Hot tip: you can order breakfast from the same menu up at TRUNK(POOL CLUB) and eat beside the pool overlooking the park. Dreamy!
-
Bar, Events & Nightlife
TRUNK(POOL CLUB) doubles as the hotel’s guests-only rooftop lounge, where oysters, seafood and cocktails come with a front-row view of Yoyogi Park. The infinity pool looks like it spills right into the park’s treetops. There are also plenty of low- and no-alcohol drinks if you’re trying to give your liver a brief Tokyo vacation, too
-
Minibar & Retail
The minibar is 10/10. Hyper-local treats and beverages, like the sparkling yuzu soda, wasabi rice crackers, and TRUNK-branded pour-over coffee packs, made with beans roasted by nearby Cafe ROSTRO. I regret not taking more of the coffee and tea packets home
-
Accessibility
The hotel has an accessible entrance to its check-in area and restaurant, wide corridors and wheelchair-accessible elevators to all levels. Guest-room televisions have subtitles
-
Pet Friendly
No. However, certain pets are permitted on the terrace at PIZZERIA e TRATTORIA L’OMBELICO
-
Children
Yes, but I didn’t see any during my stay. The hotel definitely feels more like a hip, grown-up hideaway than a family-focused property
-
Price
Not wildly out of step with what you’d expect from a design-forward luxury boutique hotel in this impossibly hip part of Tokyo, especially one with a guests-only rooftop pool and this level of service. The Owner’s Suite is absolutely worth the splurge if your budget allows
