The Best Hotels And Guest Houses in Baja California Sur
The Mexican state is having a hospitality moment and we rounded up the best hotels and guest houses for every trip budget
Baja California Sur has long attracted an eclectic stream of visitors. A land of distinct and contrasting character, the southern tip of the westernmost state of Mexico is a unique place where the desert meets the ocean, and ancient cacti thrive side by side with unexpected, lush palm tree groves.
For decades, its dusty trails, surf breaks, abundant marine life, farmlands, and mountain ranges have drawn travelers in search of nature and outdoor adventures, while the more populated centers have instead become known for their young and extra lively visitors.
While Cabo has been a hub for mega, all-inclusive resorts for a long time, now, more creative hotel lovers — and makers — are flocking to the peninsula as alternative lodging options start to abound, and several new projects are in the pipeline. We have our eyes on Aman’s Baja outpost, Amanvari, and Habitas Todos Santos, opening in 2024.
The greater news is that there are already cool and inspiring options for every budget. We rounded up some of our favorite independent hotels and guest houses — with recommendations of what to do in the area inside each hotel review.
We grouped the hotels in four areas: San José del Cabo, Todos Santos & Pescadero, La Paz, and The East Cape, and pinned them on a super user-friendly map you can save directly to your devices and have the whole region at your fingertips.
San José del Cabo
ACRE RESORT
Tucked away in the foothills of San José del Cabo, the only area where palm trees naturally grow, Acre Resort is a playground for all. With 13 thatched treehouses, villas, organic farms and an award-winning bar and restaurant, much like its Canadian owners, you will not want to leave this private jungle oasis. They also have an animal rescue sanctuary and adoption center on the grounds. Even if you don’t plan on staying there, it is definitely worth it to go for a meal and walk around their stunning gardens.
