The unmistakable ivy-covered exterior reminds you what the 1 Hotel is all about.

More like a nursery than a hotel from out here.

In keeping with their idea of reclaimed materials and recycling...everything.

I think you're getting the point.

The view of trees is nice amid towering buildings.

Wood panelling all over the wall, but a cozy bed nonetheless.

Very Brooklyn, but Brooklyn happens to be pretty great at food and drink.

Greenhouse-inspired shower in the middle of the room.

I loved the hourglass in the shower - protect your skin!

Shame I never got to use it as a snack bowl.

A reminder everywhere to get in touch with nature.

The lobby is mostly cozy chairs, plants, and sculptured wood.

Late night at the bar (you know how it goes).

Nice window seat.

I'm all about terrariums.

Carrying around this rock wherever I go.

Highs & Lows

  • There's greenery everywhere. Any reminder of nature in this city is welcome, and my stay couldn't be more timely. It shows the potential of conscious and sustainable design in hospitality—something you'll be seeing much more.

  • The proximity and view of Central Park, of course.

  • The greenhouse-inspired shower in the middle of the room is nice to wake up to, and also adds space to the room.

  • All materials used in the hotel were reclaimed or recycle. Environmentalism is sexy.

It's a lively seafood-focused restaurant and lounge that's a little more casual than neighboring spots.
