Highs & Lows

  • The most striking thing about Kalapa is this feeling of being a million miles away from everything. As you drive down a bumpy narrow road and through the wooden gates, you will instantly know that you have arrived at a very special place.

  • Outdoor showers are quite common around Bali and Kalapa is no exception. The bathroom of the house we stayed in had no roof and showering in the evening under the stars felt like a daily meditation. Prefer a bath? Kalapa had one of the deepest baths I’ve ever encountered made completely from stone. Understated luxury at its best.

  • The houses are very comfortable and feel lived in so you instantly feel like you are at home. One of my favorite touches was the traditional Balinese straw hats and fans that were placed in the wardrobe to take down to the pool with you.

  • There are two pools at Kalapa and both are beautiful in their own unique way, but my favorite is the pool at the top of the property overlooking the rice fields. Throughout the day you will bear witness to farmers passing through the fields warding off bad spirits using tall bamboo poles to the soft soundtrack of wooden of wind chimes placed throughout.

  • Everyone who works at Kalapa is so warm and friendly, literally the most lovely people ever. The service at times was a little spotty but nothing major at all and I think some of it was due to being a bit lost in translation.

  • I stayed four nights here and could have stayed much longer so don’t make the same mistake I did - stay longer! Kalapa is worth it.
