Highs & Lows

  • Style, art and aesthetics true to the region. La Raia is more than just a hotel — it is an eco-system with a biodynamic winery and an art foundation with outdoor installations, all located on a bucolic 180 hectares.

  • Normally gift shops at hotels are a bust, but I recommend visiting the stunning wine shop that was restored and designed by Deamicisarchitetti architects located in the hotel.

  • We enjoyed sunny weather on our final day, and were able to explore the Fondazione La Raia, an outdoor, walkable, curated series of art installations dotted throughout the 180-hectare property, featuring works by Remo Salvadori, Koo Jeung A and Michael Butler.

  • If the weather is rainy, as it was during a majority of our visit, then expect to spend a majority of time indoors. Late autumn vacations in northern Italy are a roll of the dice!

Website was easily accessible and user-friendly. I always book directly so the hotel gets the full room rate and not docked by third-party websites! Locanda La Raia also did all it can to accommodate our needs. Traveling with a small baby is not a vacation; it’s an adventure — from offering baby-friendly food (a tough feat in a high-end restaurant) to requesting our arrival time and planning a tour of the La Raia Art Foundation, we felt as if the guest experience was pertinent and a priority for the hotel. Despite the rainy weather, the welcome was smooth, sound and seamless

Perfectly situated in northern Italy's Gavi region, nestled between Milan and Genoa. Gavi is a small town marked by its lush landscape of rolling hills and vineyards, known for its Barolo wine, and during the autumn season, as a mecca for truffle foraging. The grapes of Gavi grow alongside Roman ruins, historic sites, world class galleries and Ligurian-Piemontese classical architecture buildings.
