…to the stripped back treads of the original staircase, everything is considered and timeless

Room 3 on the 3rd floor. Each of the 3 rooms encompasses an entire floor of the house.

Each room has a seating area with windows overlooking the tree lined Georgian square.

Twin robes, twin sinks, a bath and a shower big enough for two and lots of lovely REN Skincare on the house made for the most relaxing bathroom experience ever.

Tea for two? No mini bar but the thoughtfully sourced tea, bottled water and biscuits. All were free.

It’s here in the seating area of your room that your breakfast is served. Each delicious morsel is chosen by you the night before.

The breakfast includes your choice of cooked dish too.

The renovation has acknowledged the passing of time. Layers have been stripped back to reveal original Georgian plasterwork.

From the stunning chandelier on our private landing…

Situated in Hawley Square, The Reading Rooms is a luxury boutique bed and breakfast in a recently restored Grade II listed Georgian town house.

Highs & Lows

  • The breakfast is utterly delicious and Louise and Liam are happy to fill you up for the day, so feel free to try everything you’d like to on the menu. Make your choices the night before and leave your filled in card at the bottom of the stairs.

  • The bedrooms and bathrooms are really generous in size and lovely spaces to relax in, so make sure you have some down time planned to enjoy chilling out.

  • A long soak in the roll down cast iron bathtub is a must. Use the complimentary Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil and you’ll come out silky smooth and feeling like you’ve had a full body massage.

  • Liam and Louise know Margate and what it has to offer very well so ask them for advice on where to eat, drink, shop and explore.

  • The Reading Rooms is somewhere you’ll want to return to, so you’ll probably want to start planning your next visit as soon as you leave, if not before. Some of Louise and Liam’s most regular guests loved it so much they ended up buying properties in the same square.

  • Margate is totally up our alley with its mix of vintage furniture, contemporary art and good food. Though, it is pretty small and would benefit from more regeneration. If there was a little bit more to do and see, for example, we would have reason to stay longer at The Reading Rooms.
