Highs & Lows

  • The location can’t be beat. Nestled amid eclectic vintage shop-houses and bar-strewn Club Street (lively but not keep-you-awake lively). Chinatown brims with temples, food, herbal medicine stores, quality massage joints and an MRT station (Singapore’s subway system is a bona fide delight!)

  • The staff are warm, smiley and accommodating, there to call you a cab or take your photo on the Alice In Wonderland-esque foyer chairs.

  • The pink corridors in the original 1868 building dip and weave atop the natural contours of Ann Siang Hill. It’s like walking on carpeted rock. Or like waking up in a Haruki Murakami novel. Either way, very cool.

  • The drapes, dressings and dangles are inspired by the jewelery of a fictional and enigmatic hostess called ‘Scarlet’. You’ll want to touch all of it.

  • Instant coffee and powdered milk in the room. Why?

  • The desk chair is a work of art but it’s too low for the tabletop.
