Highs & Lows

  • Baglioni has a property in the heart of most of Italy's most popular cities, which makes it really easy to plan a trip in a single swoop and get the same great level of service and familiarity throughout. At the same time, each hotel has its own unique character, so it's far from a cookie cutter experience.

  • The brand is family owned and operated, and it really shows in the staff's personality and anticipation of guests' needs. Case in point- when I approached the front desk in running sneakers and headphones early one morning, the concierge had already pulled out a map with suggested running routes before I even asked.

  • The hotel is very centralized; most attractions are reachable on foot if not a short cab ride.

  • The design might feel a bit formal to the modern traveler, but there's something so welcomingly Italian about the poshness: it makes you want to spiff up your look and dress the way people did before yoga pants became acceptable in public.

Tucked in a corner of the Piazza della Maddalena near the Pantheon, it doesn't get more classic, homemade and delicious than this. While finishing your plate of pasta will be no challenge, charming the owner into giving you one of their not-for-sale "clemente with love" t-shirts is the true feat.

Of course you will see the landmarks and museums, but add on a morning visit to Rome's version of Central Park. Jogging through the acres of gorgeous gardens and statue-lined paths to the sound of church bells waking the city is a truly memorable experience.
