"Gypset luxury in midtown Manhattan"
Highs & Lows
-
Design enthusiasts rejoice. No one does high end patchwork chic like Kit Kemp. There is no design stone left unturned here
-
The suites are so roomy and comfortable, they would happily serve as a regular pied-à-terre if you had cash to burn, but I'd use for a small, splurgey cocktail party
-
Given it's the middle of midtown, there's no vista from the terrace, but across-the-street views of Aman New York, up 5th Avenue and other luxe properties make you feel like you're in exactly the right place
-
The Whitby Bar and Orangery menu is comfortingly, expensively solid. You could take fancy clients, family, brunchers, just for happy hour- everyone will be glad
-
The staff was a wonderful team of warm, real people. The one odd note was a bartender who wanted to share his political, incel-y thoughts on women's rights until we asked him to stop. Could have done without that weirdness

Food
This is a luxury hotel, and that is just what you'll find ($36 smoked salmon and eggs for breakfast). The bar and Orangery restaurant menu is high-end English American (roast turkey breast, beef fillet) but the real draw is the Afternoon Tea with cucumber sandwiches, chiffon cake and scones
-
Bar, Events & Nightlife
Given that this is a quietly fancy spot in midtown, the bar scene is not exactly raucous, but it's a fabulous place for a happy hour martini, and every Friday is Negronis & Live Jazz with The Sam Taylor Trio
-
Minibar & Retail
There's no shop but all the luxe details are for purchase- the trademark candles, textile totes, bath salts are all worthy take aways. There was an elegant, curated full bar set-up in suite, in addition to the high-level mini bar options (splits of champs, etc.)
-
