The hotel occupies two separate buildings of a former power company, in the heart of The Bund—Shanghai’s most bustling neighborhood.

EDITION’s signature spiral staircase.

Selfie game strong in the lobby.

The lobby.

More lobby.

I’ve never met a faux fur blanket I didn’t like.

Extreme coziness.

The family that ‘grams together stays together.

The EDITION broadsheet is the best publication in the entire world (full disclaimer: I’m the publication’s editor).

Turndown service never looked so cute.

A view of the future, from our room.

Likely checking Chinese Tinder.

Room with a view.

The Eastern Hemisphere’s most perfectly symmetrical bathtub.

Birds’ eye bar view.

An architect lover’s pool.

My cousin is too sexy for this bar.

Where our delicious breakfast was served.

The fried chicken was so good we ordered a second helping before the first one was gone—don’t judge.

Next level foliage.

And from above.

The beautifully neutral interior vibes of HIYA.

The quiet before the storm: a shot of the restaurant HIYA before the hungry crowd showed up.

If you’re wondering, I ordered an espresso martini.

Pretending I’m the queen of the castle.

I fully believe these sushi tacos were sent down from heaven.

The rooftop bar.

Highs & Lows

  • The staff are incredible. Before you can even think of what you need next, someone will be right there providing you with it.

  • The design of all the public areas is beautiful, but not so over designed that you can’t relax. It is the perfect blend of sophistication and comfort.

  • I will never forget the first bite of the Jason Atherton-conceived crispy, flavor-packed “sushi taco” which is by far the best thing I've tasted in 2018.

  • The staff uniforms: so cool and so classy.

  • All of EDITION’s hotels have adopted a plastic free policy, so you won’t see straws, plastic water bottles, etc. anywhere here.

  • No full length mirror in the rooms, but just travel with trusted friends and family and your outfit should be all good.

    Gym, pool and spa.

  • Restaurant

I can’t even begin with the restaurants here. Jason Atherton is a culinary genius with HIYA and Shanghai Tavern, plus a traditional Cantonese option - Canton Disco.

  • Bar

Yassss. The Punch Room, a rooftop bar, a plush 5th floor lounge with the most beautiful karaoke room you’ve ever seen, cocktails by the pool table in the lobby and the club Electric Circus. It’s incredibly easy to drink like a queen here.

  • Minibar

    Yes, with wine and seaweed.

  • Children

Didn’t see them, but if they like chic hotels as much as you do, please bring them along.

  • Price

    Around $300.

I may be biased, but my cousin owns the best hip hop club in Shanghai.
