Highs & Lows

  • Location – great for a more ‘happening’ upstate getaway. Warren Street has a LOT to see, great antique stores, vintage shopping, good local music and arts scene and lots of gallery options to pop in and out of in between sampling the impressive local cafe’s and restaurants.

  • Convenient and easy – if you’ve got work to do in Hudson, bidding on an art auction or buying property, it all seems to happen on Warren Street. An easy train ride (two hours) up the Hudson lets you off a short walk away.

  • Interior design - steers well away from country cottage and has the stylish touch of someone with a good eye for design.

  • The sound of the distant train whistle in the night is pretty special – great to nod off to.

  • Sharing a bathroom is just not that much fun – I am either too old or too spoilt. BUT there are rooms with private bathrooms for people like me… I will be booking one of those next time.

  • A getaway is always made more memorable when you meet new and interesting people – I missed not having a communal area to have a coffee or a scotch with other guests. But the good news is a restaurant/bar is in the works on the ground floor.

  • You know the waterfront is right across the road, but you just can’t see it due to the housing that blocks the view.

Important Bits

  • Type

    Guest house.

  • Vibe

Upstate heritage with a contemporary touch – no lace doilies in sight.

  • Location

Central Hudson, a three hour drive from NYC, stones throw from the train station (very pleasant train ride) and perfect location for exploring Hudson’s galleries, restaurants, antique/vintage shopping and culture.

  • Rooms

    7 rooms.

  • Music

No music playing, but there are Tivoli radios in the rooms.

  • Year Opened

The hotel was re-launched in 2013 by the current owners.

  • Designed By

The new owners Kristan and Kirby.

  • Health & Wellness

    No.

  • Restaurant

No – but there is a communal kitchenette with oats, granola bars, tea, coffee and water. Suites have their own kitchen and there is a restaurant in the works on the ground floor, which will open next year

  • Bar

    No, but coming soon.

  • Minibar

    No.

  • Children

For sure. I would opt for the suites for a bit more room.

  • Price

Great value – an easy impulse purchase for a weekend away.
