-
Music
The live music duo outside in the garden restaurant ran from lunch to cocktail and through dinner, and people seemed to love the vibe
-
Year Opened
The site of an inn since 1697 (America's oldest) this spot has lived a lot of lives. Through the 18th to the 20th century, it was run by people from the Waldorf Astoria and Maxim's, rebuilt in 1923 after a fire, operated as a nightclub from the 70s to the 2000s that saw Duke Ellington, Led Zeppelin and Billy Joel, and reopened to its current life in 2022 after a 12 year restoration
-
Designed By
Both crisply modern and classical, design firm Workstead drew from the site's storied past to create each legacy-inspired room, from 1920s architecture to 70s event spaces, all the way to the tile-forward Delft themed dining in The Bottle Room
-
Health & Wellness
Yes, yes, yes. The pool club is fully gorgeous and outfitted resort style, the gym is compact but has everything you need (including the latest fitness mirror tech), and the spa, run by Tribeca favorite Onda Beauty, is a destination that draws from miles around
-
Food
Our perfect first early-fall meal. Cider-brined chicken, fresh roasted local fish, stone fruit cobbler...all local produce, and a New York Thymes (bourbon, Campari, and thyme). Breakfast for guests, and they'll pack you a picnic basket for the beach
-
Bar, Events & Nightlife
The firepits outdoors should take you well into the season for afternoon outdoor cocktailing, and in warmer weather all the action focuses on the garden restaurant and bar out back. Indoors, one of our favorite spaces was the study with the roaring fireplace off the bar. Bring in your AM coffee and your PM nightcap
-
Minibar & Retail
Mini bar is not so mini. Stuffed with local east end treats, wine and spirits. As for merch, I wear my "1697" sweatshirt constantly
-
Accessibility
Contact the property directly to accomodate specific accessibility needs, but the elevator to upper floors is 60" wide with a wheelchair-accessible path
-
Pet Friendly
Request your dog's access ahead of time, $75/night fee but there are steep penalties for dogs that exceed weight limit, without a reservation, or being in non-pet rooms. Not allowed in restaurants, bar, or the pool, spa or gym
-

Cribs and rollaways available, everyone was super sweet and accommodating to ours

If you've taken different routes out East, you've probably driven past the stunning grounds off the Montauk Highway. On a centuries-old waterfront property overlooking the Shinnecock Bay, it's technically Southhampton, which means you're a short (or long, depending on the season) drive from the rest of the Hamptons. But it's so beautiful here you might skip it altogether...
